International Downtown Association and Springboard for the Arts Partner on Cross-Sector Creative Placemaking Investment through NEA “Our Town” Grant

IDA and Springboard for the Arts have partnered and will receive a $50,000 Our Town grant to support creative placemaking projects, helping transform communities into lively, beautiful and resilient places with arts at their core. IDA will partner with Springboard to research downtown associations, business improvement districts and other urban practitioners who are already effectively incorporating art and artists into their work. IDA will work with Springboard to produce case studies of these existing models and to create a special, customized toolkit for use in businesses improvement districts. This toolkit will be freely available on Springboard's Creative Exchange platform and on IDA's PEAK: Place Experts share Advice & Knowledge platform.

NAIOP uses IDA’s Downtown Rebirth to create downtown vibrancy index

IDA’s 2013 “Downtown Rebirth” report has informed research about the role of vibrant central business districts as it relates to office market success. The NAIOP Research Foundation with Professor Emil Malizia have produced a comprehensive, comparative study of office space performance, which reveals a clear preference for vibrant, live-work-play centers, an area of expertise for IDA members. For the team’s analysis on CBD vibrancy, they created a “vibrancy index” that measures compactness, density, external connectivity, internal destination accessibility, land use mix, and street design for walkability. The two major sources informing this index came from Co Star property analytics and IDA’s Downtown Rebirth Report. For more information on the study, read ULI’s Making Downtowns What They Used to Beand visit the NAIOP report page here: Preferred Office Locations.
