Operations & Security Summit 2019

Join IDA and the Downtown Phoenix Partnership for the inaugural Operations & Security Summit April 10-11, 2019. This Summit will concentrate on clean and safe teams, public safety, homelessness and exciting opportunities that impact the public realm through smart city applications. Collaborate and gain ideas from other operations professionals and learn to cultivate the story of our successes.

As Arizona’s urban center, Downtown Phoenix provides unique year-round experiences thanks to a rich history, diverse culture, fantastic art community and booming live music scene. From award-winning restaurants to exciting sports events and concerts, this is the epicenter of fun things to do Phoenix. Join us in the Valley of the Sun!

The Operations & Security Summit will be held in downtown Phoenix. Online registration is now closed. You may register onsite at the Courtyard Phoenix Downtown, Encanto (Floor 3), 132 S Central Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85004 April 10 or April 11. The onsite rate is $225. 2019 Opening Panel Speakers

Jonathan Koppell, Dean & Professor, Watts College Of Public Service & Community Solutions at Arizona State University
Jonathan GS Koppell focuses on preparing students for lives of community engagement and public service while promoting use-inspired research aimed at making our communities more prosperous, healthy and resilient. Koppell’s research and writing broadly examines the design and administration of complex organizations in the public, private and nonprofit sectors. He holds a doctorate in political science from University of California, Berkeley and an A.B. from Harvard College.



Dennis Orender, Commander – Central City Precinct, Phoenix Police Department
Commander Dennis Orender is a 23-year veteran of the Phoenix Police Department. He also served two years with the Hamilton Police Department in Hamilton, Ohio, as well as four years in the United States Air Force. Dennis is focused on building trust, and collaborating and building partnerships with the community. Dennis has received numerous commendations throughout his career and has been the recipient of numerous military and department awards.



Dominic Papa, Executive Director, Institute for Digital Progress
Dominic Papa is the Executive Director of the Institute for Digital Progress (iDP), an innovation-driven, smart city nonprofit. iDP provides the unified leadership structure to drive innovation through collaboration, and empower governments with the mechanism to create, develop, and deploy emerging technologies across jurisdictions, across sectors, and across industries. In 2016, Dominic built the Smart & Connected AZ Council, which provides cities with an “Innovation as a Service” model, a platform that allows local governments, private industry and academic research institutions to collaboratively design and develop new innovative technology pilots that advance solutions to public challenges, have a measurable impact, and the potential to scale.

What's our Real Role with Homelessness Workshop ($50)

Wednesday, April 10th | 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Work with representatives from Arizona State University's Watts College of Public Service & Community Solutions to strategize what is truly a BID's role in homelessness.


Post-Conference Tour

Tempe's Streetcar Project Tour ($25)

Friday, April 12th | 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Meeting location: DPI Office, 1 E. Washington Street, Ste 230

Meet the team from Valley Metro, the regional public transportation agency for the Phoenix metropolitan area, and explore how collaborations can grow when it comes to wayfinding, first/last mile ride options and security notification systems. Learn about the Tempe Streetcar project—the first modern streetcar line in the Valley. Travel to Tempe on the light rail to see the streetcar project come to life and explore Tempe's famed Mill Avenue. The tour will end at noon. Afterwards, enjoy lunch on your own along Mill Avenue!



The Courtyard Phoenix Downtown, located at 132 South Central Avenue, is offering a rate of $159/night plus taxes. Please book your room by Friday, March 15, 2019 online. Parking is valet only, $33 per day inclusive of tax.
